Associate Veterinarian

Hi, my name is Dr. Maymi, and I am an Associate Veterinarian at Briar Patch Veterinary Hospital . I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping my patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

My longest-standing hobby is my yoga practice, which always brings me back to the present moment and the joy of this life. You can also catch me exploring new hiking trails and swimming holes throughout Ithaca, spending time in my garden, crafting, and trying new recipes. At home, I share my life with my cats Daryl and Frida—Frida loves to playfully terrorize her big brother—and our newest addition, Rheagal the leopard gecko.

Education

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Neurobiology from Harvard College, where I also completed pre-veterinary coursework. I then attended Cornell University, where I completed a combined DVM/PhD program—earning my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine alongside a Ph.D. in Biomedical and Biological Sciences with a focus in immunology.

Professional Background

Throughout my training, I have been an active researcher and have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in immunology. My work has been recognized with several honors, including an NIH F30 Fellowship for Predoctoral Dual Degree Students.

Memberships

I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Work History

During my clinical year at Cornell University's teaching hospital, I rotated through a wide range of specialties—including surgery, anesthesia, internal medicine, dermatology, oncology, radiology, cardiology, ophthalmology, emergency and critical care, neurology, and exotics—and completed externships in shelter medicine. I have also volunteered with FARVets in Guatemala, where I performed surgery and monitored anesthesia at a high-volume spay-neuter clinic, and I gained earlier hands-on experience at Cornell's teaching dairy barn and as a student volunteer at VCA Brookline Animal Hospital.
